The Old North Church in Boston--known as the place Paul Revere hung lanterns to alert citizens that British forces were coming either by land or by sea during the American Revolution--received a luminary makeover last week, thanks to some newly-installed LEDs, the Associated Press reports:

The energy-saving lights were placed in the still-functional church and tourist spot so that they aren't visible directly below. They are supposed to last 25 times as long as the previous bulbs and give off less heat, which is good because the old lights made the ceiling paint peel off.

However, the LEDs replaced old-fashioned lights--and this is a historical landmark.

Is it right or wrong to update old buildings with new technology? How do you, as a developer or property manager, weigh the pros and cons?
